Jay’s hard at work on a new dory. Or trying to be. There are a lot of tourists strolling along the Lunenburg waterfront on this beautiful sunny day and while we enjoy having an open shop, it can make it a little hard to get to the job at hand.
And speaking of the job at hand, our current boat is a little 12-foot-bottom – what we call our Lunenburg dory – but with a modified stern so as to take an outboard motor. It’s a configuration the dulse harvesters from Grand Manan in the Bay of Fundy prefer, and it’s an excellent option for motorizing dories that are too small to be outfitted with motor wells.
When finished, this boat will also include a nice wide locker-style stern seat from which to comfortably operate the outboard while also providing a convenient storage space for her new owner in Maine.
