Holiday celebrations kicked into high gear over the weekend with the running of Lunenburg’s annual Santa Claus Parade.
Started just three years ago, it’s a fantastic event – colourful and fun and wonderfully supported by the businesses and organizations of our little maritime community.
Best of all, the parade has a unique and distinctive theme – more than 90 per cent of the parade’s 40-plus entries featured wooden dories, including the one that carries the grand old elf himself!
As Santa’s dories elves since 1917, we of course participate, as do our neighbours from the Barque Picton Castle. The ship’s entry featured their world-voyaging Rasta dory, Sea Never Dry, built here at The Dory Shop, along with sarong-clad sailors who danced their way through the entire parade.
The Dory Shop is once more indebted to Wayne Cleveland, who hauled our entry in the parade, to Stephen Ernst who worked his fingers to the bone playing carol after carol on the accordion, and finally to our little elves – Maddie, Eliza, Max and Jack.
