We had a little celebration at The Dory Shop yesterday. We like to do things like that. It’s part of the tradition here and with at least five weeks of winter weather left (thanks to that pesky groundhog) you have to do something to make the season pass.
We really had something to celebrate too. You see, it was announced yesterday that The Dory Shop is the first recipient of funding from the Lunenburg Working Waterfront Investment Fund.
Created last year, the LWWIF is what’s known here as a Community Economic Development Investment Fund; a government-approved investment vehicle that not only allows community members to invest in community projects, it makes such investment financially attractive thanks to tax incentives for the investors.
The Lunenburg fund is designed to stimulate economic activity and assist revitalization of the working waterfront by creating a pool of funds that can be used to help finance marine-related businesses looking to locate, start-up or expand here.
In the Dory Shop’s case, we have been approved for a loan that will help us buy smarter, work more efficiently, create an inventory of in-stock models ready for sale and generally grow the business, including employment levels. ‘Cause poor Jay gets lonely sometimes, right?
We really appreciate the support, and we can’t help but think it’s a fitting first disbursement for the fund. Lunenburgers love the Dory Shop; it symbolizes a proud past but equally a commitment to quality products that withstand the test of time.
Directors of the LWWIF also took the opportunity yesterday to announce the fund’s latest offering. For more information, please visit their website.Dory PlugThe Dory ShopLunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canadainfo@doryshop.com
