In case you missed the link on our home page, The Dory Shop has just announced the launch of a new boatbuilding program to begin this fall.
The inaugural Build-A-Dory course will be offered September 15-20 with places for just six people so as to provide as much hands-on building experience as possible.
Jay will lead the course. After 30 years of building boats, he got a taste of teaching last summer while students from the Dalhousie University School of Architecture were here and he quite enjoyed it. Better yet, the reports from students were really enthusiastic so we know those attending this fall will get a lot out of the experience.
September is a great time to be in Lunenburg. The weather is still beautiful and yet the town is not as congested as it can become at the height of summer. The restaurants and shops are all still open, yet many of the community’s delightful inns and beds and breakfasts offer discounted rates.
The course will be one week in length and is designed for those with at least basic woodworking skills. Once again, we’ll be building a Handline dory, which at the end of the course will be sold at cost to the winner of a draw of interested participants. So if you aren’t looking for a dory, no worries. If you are, then you’ll have a 1 in 6 chance of taking her home!
If you’re convinced, you can click here for an application form.
For more information about the Build-A-Dory course, please drop us a line or call 902 640-3005. Who knows? Maybe Dory Plug will even sign up. That would be a hoot!
