Cover boats

We certainly were excited to receive the latest issue of Maine Boats, Homes and Harbors magazine and find not one, not two but a full half-dozen of our dories featured in the cover photo.

This is the second time Maine Boats has run this photo, shot on the shores of Grand Manan, New Brunswick by photographer Fred Field. The first time it appeared it was part of a travel feature on this delightful Bay of Fundy island community.

The Grand Manan fishermen, specifically, the dulse harvesters, have long been customers of our shop. In fact, the style of boat they prefer – a 13-foot bottom dory with a modified stern to take a long-shaft outboard – is known as a Grand Manan dory here.

We thought the photo was great the first time we saw it. It’s even better as the cover of their 20th anniversary issue. Our congratulations to publisher John K. Hanson, Jr. on such an important milestone in the life of your magazine. And thanks for choosing these beautiful craft as your cover boats!
