Big Beautiful Boats

After building a number of great smaller dories and skiffs over the past year, it’s a real kick to walk into the Dory Shop and see a honking big boat going together. The one Jay’s currently building is a Fortune Bay dory, 17 feet on the bottom and 22’ 2” overall.

It’s amazing how just a couple of feet on the bottom adds to the size of a dory. For instance, this one has almost double the knees, or frames, of a 15-foot bottom Trawl dory (a fact Jay explained to me as he leaned in over its very high sides to fit them all – good thing he’s a big guy!)
The boat is bound for Prince Edward Island, Canada, for a client who truly loves dories. Watch for more photos shortly.
