Santa and his dories
For more than a decade, Santa has arrived in Lunenburg on the decks of a scallop dragger. But it seems even the Jolly Old Elf is getting concerned about global warning these days (he does live at the North Pole after all!), so this year he decided to row into town in a fleet of fine Lunenburg dories.
More than two dozen dories, made over as colourful holiday parade floats, preceded St. Nick as he made his way through the narrow streets of the Old Town World Heritage District Saturday afternoon. We had a couple of our boats in the parade, including a Morning Glory dory geared up with wheels in which Dory Plug’s daughter got pulled around. We also provided a Handline dory for the Kinley Drug Company float.
As you’ll see from the pictures, the weather was a little damp, but nothing an East Coaster couldn’t handle. We’ll be posting more photos later, plus you can view a short video of the parade here
Many thanks to Howard Keeping and his committee for organizing this excellent kick-off to the holiday season!
