One for the museum
As you’ll see from the photo above, Jay is nearly finished our latest dory, a sweet little Black Rocks bound for Cape Breton Island. He’s going to try to get a coat of paint on her before the weekend and then he’ll have to move her out of the main shop as next week we welcome participants to our latest dory building class. We’re really looking forward to it. Stay tuned here for pictures.
In the meantime, we’ve been cleaning up plant two and just this morning removed a big, old, super heavy piece of machinery, and history, bound for eventual display at the nearby Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic. It’s an old planer, which was still in working order and being used when Capt. Moreland purchased The Dory Shop three and a half years ago. The thing is it’s a bit of a death trap with all of the open mechanics just waiting to grab a shirt sleeve. Makes me shudder just thinking about it. However it is a piece of history to be sure – who knows exactly how many dories it produced! – and it will make a great addition to the museum’s antique engine display.
