Boots and shoes
Spring in the Maritimes is definitely rubber boot weather.
You get one glorious day of sun and that’s followed by five wet, cold and grey ones. Today the sky just opened up on a few occasions, in one case catching Jay as he made his way between the carpenter shop, where he had been planing some oak, and the main shop, where he has been building this dory.
In this case, the oak was cut into strips, called shoes, and fastened along the outside edge as well as lengthwise down the dory’s bottom, providing some extra protection when the boat is beached or trailered.
The whole footwear segue is a bit weak, I know, but what do you want? It’s raining!
