We had such a great time hosting our dory building course this spring, and have had such overwhelming interest in the prospect of future classes, that we’ve decided to host another course this fall. And this one will be even better thanks to the valuable input of our spring class.
We really can’t say enough good things about the gang we had here in early May. They gave us lots of positive feedback. But the one thing that all four gentlemen agreed upon is that the course would have been even better if they’d been able to start from scratch.
You see, to accommodate building a dory in one week with people of varying skills levels, Jay had to pre-build the dory’s bottom. So arriving this spring, participants found a dory basically ready to plank. But the truth is, if you don’t get the critical bottom bevel right, you can really mess up a boat. So it’s a pretty important part of the picture.
The gang on hand this spring told us they gladly would have come for the second week to have been able to do this and we’re taking that advice to heart. As a result, the fall course will be close to two weeks in length, beginning Tuesday, October 13 and running until Friday, October 23.
The extended course will cost $650 plus tax with all tools provided on site. We’re already working with local innkeepers to get participants some good off-season rates for accommodations and once again, all participants will have a chance to win the opportunity to buy the completed dory at cost.
