We build Dories.
Day in, day out, one after the other. We have been building dories for
more than 90 years now and, except for a few power tools, we build them
the same way we’ve always built them, with the same wood, the same
fastenings, the same oars, the same paint, the same everything! We like
it that way. It works and it will continue to work as long as the sea
is salty, and the ocean has waves.
That’s not to say nothing ever changes here. Just a couple of years
ago, our shop was purchased by a world-voyaging tall ship captain. That won’t affect the fine line of dories and custom wooden boats for which our shop is known. Instead, the captain wants to build on these finest traditions and offer additional classic designs. We’re even offering dory
building classes. It’s a new chapter in this Maritime business’ history and one we’re happy to share here.
With the change of ownership, we have also been taking a fresh look at things, like this website and ways we can provide you — our customers and friends — with more information about the things you care about; things like fine lines and craftsmanship, traditional building techniques and great wooden boats. To this end, we’ve launched a new page aimed at sharing pictures and progress on the projects we have Underway. We aim to update this frequently, so check back often.
Finally, although we are generally a custom-build shop, we occasionally build a boat on spec to fill a hole in the production schedule. Please have a look at what we have on hand.

The DORY SHOP has exported dories to the United States and Mexico. We are
interested in developing our position in these markets. Interested agents
and distributors are invited to contact us.
